Design Trends to Love

We are halfway through the year and it is time to look back and reflect upon the design trends that has shaped us. We are now designing and furnishing our homes to not only be stylish, but to have functionality, individuality and to be unique. We are spending more time in our homes, therefore, it needs to be a place to relax, to get motivated and to feel secure.

Bold Colours

If this year has taught us anything, it is to be bold and brave, so why not bring this inside the home. We saw bright colours splashed across the walls paired with bright coloured furnishings. Bold colours within the home not only are a way to brighten the room up, but a way of setting the mood. The colour blue is empowering, intense and motivating. Blue is a thinking colour and stirs creativity. It is a timeless colour when paired with neutral colours.

You should not be afraid of using bold colours, but if you are, choose to use bold furnishings like cushions on the bed and couch, bold wall art or even a statement lounge chair. If you are using the earthy bold tones, you will have no issue pairing and mix-matching colours.

Country Cottage

With the events 2021 saw, a sense of comfort and normality was needed. Many sought this through the interior design of their home. The country cottage feel incorporates the contemporary design of today with rustic, country quirks. A trend that is often overlooked due to its name and being ‘old-fashioned’. However, this trend includes large archways, detailed skirting boards and cornice. It includes the furnishings such as large fabric couch styled with floral patterns and a large throw-rug. The home has a built-in log/ electric fireplace. Not only being a piece of art but keeps the new home warm.

The Hamptons

The Hamptons vibe has been around for years, however, this year it was on another level. The neutral colour base, the light and bright rooms, the timber laminate flooring, the contrast between the indoors and the outdoors is what 2021 saw.

The styling trends we saw with the Hampton styled homes included hard-wood furnishings creating contrast between the light-coloured walls and the timber laminate flooring. These timber furnishings include coffee tables, side tables, the dining table and the bookshelf.

Having an understanding of what can be paired with the Hampton styled home is what Residential Building WA can help with. An earthy blue or grey will complement the style and enhance the home.

With four months left of the year, who knows what other design and style trends will appear and make a statement in 2022. Residential Building WA is here to bring your visions and ideas to life, whether it be a bright coloured wall, a Hampton styled home or even the comfort of the cottage style.
