Open-Plan with an open heart

With a clever floor plan designed to meet the needs of a modern family, the 2019 Telethon Home by Residential Building WA at The Hales in Forrestfield strikes the perfect balance between openness and private seclusion.

The home is impressive from the outset, with it’s bold, contemporary elevation clad in James Hardie axon cladding and Hudson brick from Midland Brick’s New York range. Blonde oak double glass doors from Corinthian open to a long hallway with dark stained oak timber flooring.

The warmth is carried into the light and fresh kitchen area with top-of-the-line Italian-made appliances from ILVE, with the adjacent dining and living areas creating a great family hub.

Extending this hub are the sliding doors at either side of the family room which bring the outdoors in. Summer nights can be spent cooking on the built-in Artusi barbecue in the central alfresco nestled in between the lounge, hallway and living area.

Residential Building WA Design Manager Brad McDonald said the upstairs portion of the home was his personal favourite area, with the master suite, ensuite, retreat and private balcony creating an oasis for parents.

“The way we captured the view to the parkland across the road through the corner window and balcony makes it the room I like the most when I walk into it,” he said.

Having built the 2018 Telethon Home on the same street, this year’s edition was a welcome challenge for the Residential Building WA design team.

“The two homes are a bit like chalk and cheese,” Mr McDonald said. “Last year we used a high-pitched roof, gable windows and lots of raking ceilings – a real sort of coastal meets hills sort of feel. This year’s home is a lot more modern, with a skillion roof design and strong geometric features on the
elevation.”

Mr McDonald said the Telethon Home was a feel-good project. “It isn’t every task or every day that has something in it that makes you smile, but when you are helping such a worthy cause as Telethon, it is one of those really proud times in your working day,” he said.

Satterley and The Hales Estate, along with Residential Building WA, will donate part proceeds from the sale of the home to Telethon. This year marks the second year Residential Building WA has built the Telethon home, with the builder owned by JWH Group, which has been building the metropolitan Telethon home for the past 13 years.

The 2019 Residential Building WA Telethon Home can be viewed Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-4pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5pm. It will be auctioned on Sunday October 27 at 11am, with a free carnival extravaganza event taking place from 9am-12pm.
